Carmen Carolina Franco

Carmen Carolina Franco graduated in accounting from University and began her career in a very traditional way by joining the Accounting Firm Blancos, Quiñones and Associates where she worked for over four years. She got introduced to Nairovi Castillo, a leader in the transgender community in the Dominican Republic, through her brother, and the meeting was to transform her life. Ms. Franco has always been interested in human rights and gender issues, but Nairovi introduced her to all kinds of new topics in human rights and gender issues she knew little about. Before she realized what she had done, Nairovi had convinced her to come and work at COTRAVEDT, an NGO assisting transgender sex workers. So, she left her career with the accounting firm and began as COTRAVEDTs Finance Manager. She stayed there for over 6 years, and helped COTRAVEDT mobilise resources of up to 2 million US dollars. Needless to say, she acquired a lot of experience in mobilizing resources over the years.
